To keep your job search as efficient and effective as possible, use this proven proactive approach as outlined below.
1) Know yourself
When you can explain very clearly your personal strengths and weaknesses, your values and preferences, you’ll know more precisely what job is best for you (and which job you are best for!)
2) Know your ideal job
Just like niche marketing, you need to identify precisely the job that would be ideal for you. Don’t waste time and dilute your message by applying for jobs that are ‘good enough’. Instead, get proactive in researching jobs to find the few that fit you best.
3) Learn about your ideal job
The more you understand your target position, company and industry, the more attractive you become. Find thought leaders, read white papers and follow newsfeeds that give you distinctive knowledge.
4) Be seen
The more they know you, the more likely they will think of you when they hire for your target position. Stay in touch with five target companies and build relevant personal relationships. You don’t need to be an extrovert …do it your way.
5) Focus on networking
Don’t waste too much time with jobs ads and applications. Applying for jobs is a time-consuming process that is full of rejection. More than half of job vacancies are never posted externally and 45% of jobs filled come from networking. So take a proactive approach; you’ll learn much more in the process and have a better chance of securing a job that fits you perfectly.
